The Ripple Effect

by Laura Bradshaw

Like a droplet hitting the water, our actions and words create a ripple effect. I teach this truth in my ministry and in my classes. However, even I was blown away to when I truly grasped the Ripple Effect my friend’s Granny had while on this earth.

Granny was beautiful and looked exactly like a granny. She was tiny in stature and mighty in the Lord. Granny raised her family to know and love the Lord. Granny’s family raised their families to know and love the Lord. Granny’s grand daughter, my friend Jule’s, taught me how to know and love the Lord – just as her family does with so many others. I taught my daughters to know and love the Lord. My daughters are teaching others to know and love the Lord. That ripple effect I understood. What I didn’t take into account were the outer bands of the Ripple Effect.

Last week Granny went to live with Jesus and I was sharing the impact she had in my life with my students in The Pursuit class. Every person in that class is a long time student of Journey U Ministries and has experienced incredible transformation in their lives. When I finished sharing, my husband added he too was a product of Granny’s legacy because her love impacted me then impacted him. What happened next blew me away. One by one each student raised their hands and said “I’m a product of Granny’s legacy.” I could not hold back the tears.
In that moment I realized that the thousand generations of blessings promised is not just linear. Not only did her love of Jesus impact her family but ever family of those she touched. And we in turn have an impact on others. And so it goes.
Your actions and words have consequences, they have a ripple effect, and that ripple effect has outer bands.

Deuteronomy 7:9
Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.
