Remember What God has Done

It’s important we remember what God has done in our lives because it helps us stay grateful and strengthens our faith. When we remember how God has helped us in the past, it gives us hope and confidence that He will continue to be there for us in the future.

In the Bible, there are many stories about people who remembered what God had done for them. One example is when Joshua led the Israelites across the Jordan River. In Joshua 4:6-7, it says, “In the future, when your children ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’ tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever.” Joshua commanded the Israelites to take twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan River to serve as a memorial of how God had stopped the flow of the river so they could cross on dry ground. These stones were a reminder of God’s faithfulness and power.

Another example is when David defeated Goliath. In 1 Samuel 17:45-47, it says, “David said to the Philistine, ‘You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head.’… All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.” David remembered how God had helped him defeat lions and bears when he was a shepherd, and it gave him the courage to face Goliath.

When we remember what God has done in our lives, it reminds us of His love and faithfulness. It reminds us that we are not alone, and that God is always with us, guiding us and helping us through difficult times. In Psalm 77:11-12, it says, “I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.” When we meditate on God’s mighty deeds, it strengthens our faith and gives us peace.

So, remembering what God has done in your life is important because it helps you stay grateful, strengthens your faith, and gives you hope for the future. Just like the Israelites crossing the Jordan River and Joshua setting up the twelve stones, when you remember how God has helped you in the past, it gives you the courage to face whatever challenges come your way. Keeping a gratitude journal is an excellent way to help you remember.

Challenge:

Write down 3 things each day you are grateful for or where you saw Jesus show up for you. Spend a few minutes each day looking back and remembering. It will change your perspective and strengthen your relationship with the Lord.
