Children: A Precious Gift of Love from God

Children are a precious gift from God, given to us as a legacy of His boundless love and grace. In their innocence, wonder, and vulnerability, they reflect the image of their Creator and serve as a reminder of His unconditional love for humanity. Let us explore the profound significance of children as a precious gift of love from God, drawing upon biblical wisdom and insight.

Created in the Image of God

From the moment of conception, children bear the imprint of their Creator, reflecting His image and likeness. Genesis 1:27 (ESV) states, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” As parents, we are entrusted with the stewardship in nurturing and guiding our children to grow in wisdom, stature, and favor with God and man (Luke 2:52).

Blessings from the Lord

In Psalm 127:3 (ESV) declares, “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.”  In a world overwhelmed by so many trials and tribulations, the presence of children brings joy, hope, and renewed sense of purpose to their families and communities. The laughter of children, their curiosity, and boundless energy they possess brings vitality and meaning to life and enriches the lives of all who encounter them.

Precious in His Sight

God has a deep love and concern for children and we see this all through scripture. In Matthew 19:14 (ESV), Jesus says, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” Jesus’ words affirm the precious value and worth of children in the eyes of God. He wants them to experience His love and grace as they come into His presence.

Examples in the Kingdom

Children serve a very important role in God’s redemptive plan, serving as examples in His kingdom and bearers of His light in a darkened world. In Matthew 18:3 (ESV), Jesus says, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Children have a childlike faith and humility that enables them to receive God’s kingdom with open hearts and minds, serving as examples for adults to emulate in their walk of faith.

Teachable Spirits

Children possess teachable spirits. They are eager to learn, explore their environments and discover the wonders of God’s creation. Proverbs 22:6 (ESV) instructs parents to, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”  Parents and caregivers have a profound responsibility to:
1.        Impart spiritual truths and values to their children
2.        Nurture them in the ways of righteousness
3.        Equip them to walk faithfully with God throughout their lives.

Legacy of Love

Above all, children are a precious gift of love from God—a physical expression of His unfailing love and faithfulness toward humanity. 1 John 4:7 (ESV) declares, “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.”  As parents and caregivers embrace their role in nurturing and guiding their children, they reflect God’s love and grace, creating a legacy of love that extends from generation to generation.

Conclusion

In conclusion, children are a precious gift of love from God, entrusted to us. May we embrace our role in nurturing and guiding them and understand the profound significance children are as reflections of God’s image.  Children are blessings from the Lord, precious in His sight, examples in His kingdom, possessors of teachable spirits, and bearers of a legacy of love. May we cherish and celebrate the precious gift of children, honoring God’s love and faithfulness in every moment we spend with them.
